“The toughest roads often
lead to the top.”
— Christina Aguilera
Is there a woman among us who has not dealt with the inevitable challenges of life? The brick walls that often stand in our way come in all shapes and forms: physical disability, mental challenges, financial woes, broken relationships, career shifts, and, yes, on a lighter note, even a “bad hair day” can move our state of mind to an unhappy place. This issue of GLOW, therefore, is devoted to WOMEN MEETING THE CHALLENGE. Our cover features three exemplary women facing challenges in health and wellness: Valerie Harper, a brain cancer warrior; Giuliana Rancic, who has conquered infertility issues and defeated breast cancer; and Aviva Drescher, a brainy 5’10” amputee who turned her physical handicap into a vehicle to help fellow amputees from the Boston Marathon. BRAVA to these special women who lift us all to a higher place!
With Spring and Summer upon us, let’s talk about body challenges, facial rejuvenation, beautiful eyes and a radiant smile. Sweat too much? An embarrassing condition can easily be corrected with new techniques available in the office of Dr. Bryan Forley. Looking for an anti-aging makeover for beautiful legs, or a “skin polish” with a remarkable new laser treatment? Check out leading dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur. “Tall and Tan and Young and Lovely”, the Ipanema Tummy Tuck is performed by renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Gotkin. And is it really possible to look 9 years younger in 90 minutes: the answer is “yes” from Dr. Deborah Sarnoff.
“Eyes are the mirror of the soul” and we are honored to welcome Drs. Ebby Elahi and Andrew Schwartz of Fifth Avenue Eye Associates to the pages of GLOW. Leading the way in innovations in oral health, we thank Dr. Gerry Curatola for his contribution and Dr. Tracy Pfeifer for her dedication to advanced techniques in breast reconstruction for those dealing with breast cancer as well as her talents in other aesthetic areas.
